PALMERSTON NORTH NOTES.

(By TOHERAPA.) The opening of the new bandroom belonging to the Pailmerpton __}andi was the occasion of a full and happy gathering. There waa a full -attendance of honorary members, and representatives from Woodville and the Municipal Bands and the Fire Brigade were present, amd Lieutenant Thos. Herd, of Wellington Garrison Band also attended. His Worship tbe Mayor, Mr W. T. Woods, our president, made a capital chairman, andi proposed " The King," in suitable term**. Needless to say the toast was well and loyally honoured. Lieutenant Herd, in a suitable speech, proposed " The President," and heartily complimented the Palmerston Band on its spacious room. The PrawidCT-t replied in a speech full of point, and gave the members credit, for good work and abundant en- \ thusiasm. He considered that the bandsmi*n deserved the best support from the citizens, because the Palmerston Band was like the Fire Brigade, liable to be called out at any time. He was glad to say it* services were always cheerfully given. In conclusion he referred in eulogistic terms to the value of the band's secretary, Mr DOuurker, and hoped his services to the baaid would continue for many years to come. The" Vice-Presidents" was proposed "by Conductor F. Meyrick, amd responded tJ by Messrs Park, Beck, Dunk, Pringle and Hocking. Other toasts honoured were — " The Honorary Member--'," proposed' by Mr C. Pickering, and responded to by Messrs Johnston and Rntherfurd ; the " Local Volunteers," proposed by Mr W. Beck, and responded to by Major Dunk, Captain Prin- ; gle, Q.M.S. Palmer and Sergeant Perrin. " The Fire Brigade," " Army and Navy," " Visiting Bandis," " The Musicians," " The Ladies" and the "Press." Sang and story made up a pleasant, evening. Mr P. Tombs . made an excellent accompanist. j
