ENTERTAINMENTS.

__ The North Canterbury Mounted Rifles held an enjoyable and; successful eocial gathering at the Rangiora Drill Hall on Friday evening. There was a large attendance, including a number of visitors from other Volunteer companies. Songs, and dancing, the latter to music supplied by Mr 0. Tyler's band, formed the principal part of the programme. The weekly meeting of the Sumner Savage Club was held on Thursday evening in the Borough Council Chambers. There was a very large attendance of members and visitors from Christehurch. A programme consisting of songs, recitations- and violin solos was gone through, and an enjoyable evening was passed, the visitors leaving for town by the 10.20 tram. The employees of Messrs Beath and Co. held a very enjoyable social in Hobbs's Buildings on Thursday evening. Dancing and ping-pong were indulged in until a late hour. Mrs Vaughan supplied the music, and Messrs Hulbert and Willis acted as M.C.'s. On Thursday evening the employees of Messrs J. Ballantyne and Co. met the Yorkshire Society in the Caledonian Rooms in a game of cards. Whist, cribbage and euchre were, played, and the tournament resulted in a win for the Yorkshire Society by eight points, the scores being, Yorki shire Society 91, J. Ballantyne and Co. 83. After supper dancing was kept up till midnight. At the West Eyreton Hall on Friday evening ai very successful social gathering was held, under the auspices of the Library Committee. The attendance was large. Mu9ic was supplied by Mr A. Searell, and the duties of M*Q. were carried out by Mr R. Smith. The catering was entrusted to Mr Nankeville.
