JOHN LOCHHEAD.

Mr John Lochhead, one of the earliest pioneers in the Ellesmere district^ died at his residence early this morning, aged sixty-six years. He had! been ailing for over two years, and his death was not unexpected. In partnership with his brother, Mr Robert Lochhead,. he conducted extensive farming operations with considerable success in the Ellesmere district. The deceased, who came out in the ship Green Jacket, arrived in Auckland in the early sixties, .and was engaged in the Auckland province until the outbreak of the Maori war, after which he settled in Leeston, and lived at Lochhead Farm until his death. He was universally respected. He leaves a widow and five grown-up sons.

A very old and respected resident of Lyttelton, Mr W. Olliver, died early this morning, in his ninety-second year: He came to Lyttelton by the ship Mystery, in 1859. , Ho retained his faculties to the last in a remarkable manner.. ■; »^_
