THE MAKOHINED VIADUCT.

« — _ A SATISFACTORY TEST. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, June 10. A preliminary trial of the Makobine viaduct took place yesterday. An engine drawing twelve trucks of ballast and another truck containing a party of Public Works officials, workmen and others crossed from the Ohingaiti' side. The structure was severely tested' with % load of 150 tons, this •heavy load crossing half-a-dozen times. Notwithstanding tho great height of 242 ft, the motion of the train was perfect. The viaduct is 700 ft across. Those in charge of the test were thoroughly satisfied with it.
