The snatch between the Australians and^ ' Cambridge University commenced to-day. ! The 'weather was showery, the wicket slow and the attendance meagre. Darling, Noble, Saunders and Howell were omitted from the visiting team, Trum'ble playing for the first time since Ms accident^ and' Dr Pope, of Sydney, who went to England with the Australians, completed the team. The University secured first use of the wicket, 'Bbden and Oilman facing the bowling of Jones and Trumble. The latter soon got to work, and clean bowled Gilman — one wicket for 13. Eight runs later Hai.per ekied Txumible and was caught by Carter two wickets for 21. Do wson joined Ebden, ■who -was playing steadily. The newcomer mad© free of the bowlers, Jones especially proving expensive, tout Trumble was difficult to (play. With the score at fifty-four Dowson got leg before to Trumble—three wictkets for 54. Perm succeeded, but when ihe had made thcee he was caught by darter—four wickets for 62. Ebden then livened <up, playing in good form.
