THANKSGIVING SERVICES.
[Per Press Association.] NAPIER, June 9. Hearty thanksgiving services were held in all the local churches yesterday. The Volunteers paraded in force, and attended the Cathedral. PALMERSTON NORTH, i June 9. Peace thanksgiving services were conducted in aft the churches here yesterday. Large congregations were present in' every instance. MARTON, Junes. • t v The services held in all the churches yesterday Avere devoted to special thanksgivings for peace. There were large congregations. ! NELSON, June 9. The profits from the impromptu military sports held 1 oh the Prince of Wales's Birthday in honour of peace amount to over £10, which has been devoted to the fund for a memorial to Nelson's fallen soldiexs, to be erected at the Central State School. Peat© thanksgiving services were held in, all the churches yesterday, and were largely attendied.
At the church services held at Cust and St James's yesterday special reference was made to the declaration of peace, and the National Anthem was sung. At Kaiapoi the &cv J. Holland preached in the Anglican Church, taking his text from Psalm xlviii.. "The city of the great King. Majirk well her bulwarks, that ye may tell it to the generation following."
