The Semite has passed the .House of Representative^ amendments in the Franehisa Bill, excepting the clause making an exception in favour of " natives of the islands of New Zealand, situated in> the Pacific Ocean, beyond the Commonwealth." Thia wording is considered vague. The point raised is whether thia would not incladi natives of New Zealand. Mr O'Conno* said he did not see any danger to, th» "White Australia." principle by adopting the principle. He looked forward to the day "When New Zealand would enter the Federal Union, but it miwb be only qn terms giving^the aboriginals of that country the same political rights as they now enjoyed. Senator Stewart said that the present policy of New Zealand seemed to be to become suzerain of all the . islands, and when she come into the Federation «be would bring all her tatellites with her. The question would then aris» as to enfraaVbising the inhabitants of thesa islands. Tie-clause was amended to make it clear that the exception was in favour of the aboriginal natives of New Zealand only. : ' . ■ _
