Router's Pretoria correspondent says that the optimism with regard to peace is hardly justified by solid facts. The protraction of the negotiations is not necessarily ■at hopeful sign. Although the delegates have abandoned! their claim for independence, there are still many points of difference which may at any moment become accentuated, causing a rupture. The " Times " states that a high authority in- the South African Constabulary estimates the cost of rebuilding the burnt farms at' £ls,ooo,ooo. Generals De Wet and De la Rej are still at Pretoria. Mr Schalkburger and tho other delegates have returned to Vereeniging. The British Cahinet will meet to-day to consider some financial claims advanced! by the Boers. The Boers at Brussels allege that the 1 British Cabinet has again refused to permit fche peace delegates to consult the European! delegates.
