The rain here is the heaviest known to the oldest resident. The Kowai is very •high and! (has carried away three fences and all kinds of native shrubs. At Leitihfield the south branch of the Kowai is very high and flowing swiftly. The river broke through the embankment and' is , flowing about the streets, and! in some instances into the 'houses. There are about 2ft of water in Mr White's shop and house. At the site of the new bridge over the Kowai the approach is washed away, and also some 6'f the wood material. The potato crops oh the lowlands are practically ruined. Fortunately stock has not suffered much, as it has been driven to the highlands. Rain is still falling. , .
