A CHATHAM ISLAND DISPUTE.

.... . _^ i—— ■ .;::<. ■ A Chatham Islands case came before Mr Justice Williams in the Wellington Supreme Court on -Monday, an . . application by Mr Edward R.' ChTutleish, for an injunction restraining ' Himiona Taliuhu from trespass boing lieard. Mr Chapman appeared for the applicant. Mr Morispn, for the respondent, asked for an adjournment, as Ta-huhu had been unable to attend. A postponement was opposed by Mr Chapman, who stated that he could now call conclusive evidence in support/of the request for an injunction. There was a dispute as to the possession of certain land, and the defendant and other Maoris, who lived on it, constantly interfered with and harried Mr Chudleigh's sheep, which had had to be removed. If the suggestion that the case for' the petitioner should be heard now, and the case then adjourned for several months, were adopted, it Would mean that tne natives would have ample time to bolster up a case. Ultimately his Honour granted an interim' injunction restraining the defendants from a repetitioa of the trespass, and adjourned the case till April 21. The question, of plaintiff's costs was allowed to stand over till the case was heard. : - . :.
