A well-attendied meeting of citizens was held at Ashburton. last evening, when resolutions were passed unanimously approving of the. proposal to present the Premier with a testimonial' in recognition of his whole-souled energy .in so promptly and freely offering the services of New Zealanders to the cause of the Empire in its. time of need, and in so thoroughly voicing the opinion of the people of this colony. The meeting favoured a shilling subscription, but agreed to fall in with the Christchurch proposal. A committee was appointed to receive subscriptions from residents of the Ashburton County.
