POLITICIANS AT PLAY.
The irrepressible Mr Henniker-Heaton, who recently re-visited Australia in connection with the reorganisation of the Sydney newspaper properties in which his wife holds a considerable interest, endeavoured to arrange a chess match by ealble between the Imperial and the Commonwealth Parliaments. Members of the Commonwealth Parliament (says the "Daily News ") are ! more at home with billiards than chess. Every Australian Parliament House , has , its billiard-r(M>m, and this is tlie iribst crowded part ' of the precincts during dull debates. matches between Parliament and the Press have been played' from time to time in Sydney and Melbourne. Should the chess match be arranged, Westminster will be handicapped' by the absence of two of its former chess champions in contests with the American Congress. Mr Horace Plunkett and Mr J. H. Parnell both lost their seats at the last general election.
