Sergeant J. O'Donovan, who is in charge of the Police Training Depot at Wellington, has 'been promoted to a sub-inspectorship. DUNEDIN, Feb. 19. Inspector O'Brien, of Napier, will take charge of the Dunedin police district on the retirement of Inspector Pardy, on MSlrch. 31. [From Our Correspondent.] DUNEDIN, Feb. 19. Inspector O'Brien, who replaces Inspector Pardy (retired) ait Dumeddn, was chief detective heire 'till he was promoted to be sub-inspector at Ohristchurch. From. Oharistchurch he-was transferred as inspector to Hawke's Bay," on Inspector Emerson's retirement. I learn on reliable authority that Inspector M'Dcfanell, of Greymouth, is to be transferred to the Hawke's Bay district, and is to be replaced by Sufltfuspector Wilson, of Wellington. Inspector Gillies, of Wanganui who will go to Christchurch, will be replaced by. Sub-Inspector Kiely (promoted to be Inspector). Inspector joined the force in Auckland) in 1872 as constable, under- the Jate. Inspector M'Govwn. He was promoted to "the rank of sergeant about 1879, and after various changes, including terms in the district offices at Wellington and Auckland, was promoted to the rani of Inspector about three yeairs ago, being then in charge of the Wanganui sub-district. He was then placed in charge o>f the Nelson and West Coast district, and came to ChristohuTch two years ago, replacing Inspector Broham. , .
