Lost year the City Council, in conjunction with the Christchurch Beautifying Society, planted' a number of trees on the footpath on the city side of the South Town Belt. These were fenced in with triangular enclosures, but very little attention appears to have been paid to .them. Some of the trees are dead, while the majority of them are being choked with weeds, which have been allowed to grow up in and around tne enclosures. In a few instances the reaidents W cleared away the weeds in front of their respective properties. , The great Greenland glaciers are on an average 1000 ft thick, and move «nt a day.
