K. ? MFS ESTIMATE OF CONJUGAL BLISS. At Lambeth recently, a Mrs Taylor, of Stockwell, summoned heir husband — to whom she had been married for thirteen months— for assault. ■ In cross-examination she said she did not know that her husband and 'his late wife lived happily together for .thirty-five years. The Magistrate : Do you mean to say -you never had the curiosity to ask? The Complainant: I beg your pardon; 1 am rather hard, of hearing* ..-...- -.-.Mr Conway (for the defence): His Worship; asks whether you. never had the curiosity to ask about the late lamented? — No, I hadn't. I)id he make some remark about the eels not being cooked ?— Yes; That made you very cross, didn't it? — - It naturally would, when they had been boiling about an hour and a 'half. Did you tell him that if he found fault with your cooking you would knock hi»' brains out?— l did nothing of the sort. Did you rush at him with the saucepan?— I did nothing of the kind. Are you going back to him? — No, sir; 1 wouldn't go back to him if he offered hie £1000 a minute. . '■■-:> h\ Mr Conway: That, I regret to say, he is not in a position to do. ■ The Clerk: Had he ever ill-used you before this? — Oh, several times; but I have been like a good many more womenlooked ever it. The case was adjourned.
