A deep water pier at a cost of £15,000 has been opened at Portland, to allow big ocean liners to load there. ■ QUEENSLAND NATIONAL BANK. BRISBANE, Feb. 14, The profits of the Queensland National Bank for the past half-year were over £28,000/ Of this sum £17,000 has been, transferred to the contingency account. (Received Feb. 14, 9.52 a.m.) FRENCH ANNEXATION. SYDNEY, Feb. 14. News has been received that the Governor of Tahiti, at the request of the Queen's sons and head-men, has annexed the island of Rimatara and its dependencies, ovei which France has "for some time exercised a protectorate.
