CORRESPONDENCE.
THE AVON. | TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — A lot has been said about the state of the River Avon. Its shallowness is a source of danger to boatmen, and in many •places mud banks have formed, into which anyone not experienced- in the art of steering might run. The City Council has a plant capable of removing these, and can it not do this --on the lower reaches of the river as well as the upper? There is one place especially where even now obnoxious odours rise. I refer to that below Barbadoes Street bridge. This spot is constantly becoming worse every dry spell, and, only, a good dredging would' benefit it. There is another thing which I would like 'to call attention to. Jusfc at the bend of the river below Barbadoes Street there is a spot on one side at which a number of boys bathe with insufficient clothing in full view of passers-by. Hoping to see this stopped and the river improved, — I am, etc., PEDESTRIAN. L ■ ■
