—. — -a A peculiar in-cidient occurred; ait the Wellington Swimming Club's carnival on Saturday afternoon, says the " Post." During the progress of the tub i tournament, orxe of the vanquished competi tors, who ha-d been swiimmiiog aimlessly about, suddenly dived under h;is overturned tub, and stayed there for an extraordinary length of time. None of the participants in the tournament seemed to notice his disappearance. But the -pectators did, and naturally concluded that the man had got into difficulties, and one of their nurhbsr, • a wellknown and popular swimming enthusiast, arrayed in a six-guinea suit, dived to the rescue with commendabLs promptitude— only to see, when ihalf-way to the tu>b, the supposed dirowining man oome to the surface, fciis face -\vreaithed iat smiles.
