SIR HECTOR MACDONALD.

* The story has been current in military circles (says a London correspondent) that Sir Hector Macdonald got into the bad books of the. War Ofiice because of certain frank and outspoken remarks of his during the Australian, tour^ These remarks were .said to have intensified the feeling which was born of certain bluffly outspoken criticisms which he uttered while in South Africa — criticisms which were known to have reached the ear of the Commander-in-Chief himself. However, it has been ascertained that, so far from tihis statement being true, Sir Hector is to be removed from his present command- in India in order to take up one of a more responsible character. The new command which he is to receive will still have a sub-divisional character, 'bufc a graver duty attaches to it.
