- CHRISTCHUROH. Thursday, Feb. 13. (Before Mr N. K. Bowden, J.P., and Mr . J. T. Beresford, J.P.) Drunkenness. — For this offence Minnie Wild, alias Aldridge, and Thomas Richards, were each fined 10s, or in >. default, forty-eight hours' imprisonment. — Two first offenders were each fined ss, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. Alleged Fraud. — Ernest Robson was charged with fraudulently obtaining from one Hope Frame, of Otepoke, the sum of JBS by means of a letter purporting to be signed by one David Cox, the said' Ernest , Robson knowing such letter to have been forged. The accused was arrested on warrant yesterday afternoon, and Sub-Inspec-tor Black applied for a remand to Oamaru. This .{was granted, the accused's application for bail being refused. (Before Mr R. Beetham, S.M.) .Civil Cases. — In the following cases judgment was given fbr plaintiffs by default, for the amounts claimed: — G. J. Bevington (Mr Byrne) v. G. B. Murfitt, £14 18s sd ; Louisa Wylie (Mr Donnelly) v. Robert Pengelley, £5 15s ; New Zea-' land Farmers' Co-operative Association v. G. M. Sandford, £35 8s; E. J. Longdin (Mr Vincent) v. A. Stirling, £9 19s ld. MEETINGS OE SOCIETIES. a— The twenty-fifth half-yearly meeting of the Christchurch Working Men's Co-opera-tive Society wae held in the Oddfellows' Chambers, Lichfield Street, last evening. There was a. moderate attendance of members. The balance-sheet and. reports were read and adopted, after which a general discussion took place on the proposed establishment of a co-operative butchery, some members not being clear as to how far their Society would* have the management of the proposed extension. It was pointed out that although tihe Canterbury Trades and Labour Council was working jn conjunction with the Society, that the butchery was to be run under the rules and managei ment of the latter. Mr H. Chaplin was elected president for one year, Mr G. Frost trustee for two years, and Messrs T. Anderson, F. Robson and R. Jenner committeemen for two years and Mr W. H. M'Kellow for six months. Mr G. W. Hulme was unanimously re-elected- auditor for one year. The annual general meeting of the Canterbury branch of the Amalgamated Soeiety of Railway Servants was held in the Sydenham Chambers on Feb. 5. There was a large attendance of msrabsrs, and Mr Redway was in the chair. The Chairman, in his address, expressed his pleasure to again present such a satisfactory report of the year's work, pointing out that the branch commenced the year with a membership of 484 and a credit balance, of £118 14s 6d, and ended with a membership of 577 and a credit balance-, after deducting the liabilities, of £159 12s 84- One hundred and twenty-eight new members were admitted during the year and twelve admitted lastmonth, making a total of 589 financial members. ' The advantage of belonging to the Society was forcibly pointed out. The following were elected on committee for twelve months: — Messrs Bishop, Kemp, Grenfell, Henry, Rinaldi, Jackson, Smart, Redway and Frame; vice-chairman, Mr M'Donald ; auditors, Messrs Owen and Mullaney; treasurer, Mr Bultitude. Mr F. Dunn was installed in the chair, and returned thanks for the- honour conferred. Votes of • thanks were- accorded to the retiring officers and committee, who suitably responded.
