There is a> consensus cf opinion that Brigadier-General Bea'tson grievously forgot himself when referring to^he Victorian Fifth Contingent after the Williamsrust reverse. It is considered, that as the Victorians were Volunteers they did not deserve either death sentences or commuted penalties. Detention would have been j sufficient. The Premier has received advice that the War Office is unable to approve of any more commissions being offered to New Zealanders. The Government has received a cable message from the Cape which, states that the Delphic left, Capetown on Oco. 22, having on board 1 for New Zealand Lieutenant Heckler ami tea Now Zealanders, and nine men of various South African corps. ■■■ - I
