Thursday. The work thia morning was of an exceedingly interesting character. Cutts waa the first to appear, and sent Glenogle, Goldenmere and Yseult on a time-making task over six furlongs, which was run in lmin 17 2-ssec from a walking-up start, the first-named leading throughout. GJenaladale and Windwhistle, looking in capital fettle, traversed a- mile and a half, and' the pair, maintaining a solid paoe throughout, completed tho journey in 2min 42sec, finishing together. The Cup candidate, however, held his companion safe. Somerled galloped a mile, the last seven furlongs occupying lmin 3__eec. Cannie Chiel compassed a circuit At a stroug pace, moving freely, white Peerage galloped a mile. Ordnance brushed over five furlongs, and Margot and De Murska spurted half a- mile. Puimen amd Djin Djin were associated in a- gallop over one mile and a half, Billet Doux acting as pacemaker for the first part of the journey. At the mile and a quarter Canteen joined in, and the three Cup candidates went on together, Fulmen being ridden to keep -his position. Pulraen, considering the weight he was conceding his companions, performed creditably; but Canteen did not appear to finish with much resolution. Cora Linn ran live furlongs, while Heiress and Xiongr Tom, separately, were given useful tasks. First Light waa too good ior the Clanranald — Mattie filly in a five-lurlong gallop, the half-mile of which was run in 3'isec. Lady Dundas, fl'ione, dashed over six furlongs in lmin 17Jsec, while Bcinbarato easily defeated Caliver over «. fast half-mile, run in slscc. Blazer and Goldspur brushed over five furlongs in lmin 4Jsec, without being extended, and Savannah ran a brilliant half-mile, easily defeating Hermosa in 50-ec. Cherrystone galloped several furlongs, and Cadet and Marina, separately, did useful exerciso, while Hawthorn, Siepdancer, Bsttiec, Ascenoion and Heroism were allotted light tasks. S. Waddeli's team was out and did steady work. Ideal is lookiug particularly bright and weli, and a similar remark applies to Jabber, Paphos, lleli-a-nce, Wheellock and Lyoue-se. The last-named is a speedylooking youngsters. Sirius, who bears a seasoned appearance, cantered. After breakfast 'Sarchedon easily defeated Battlecry over half a- miie, nm in 4&Jsec on the grass, with c- strong nor'-wester blowing behind them. Tercelet and Golden Vein brushed over four furlongs up the back, finishing together in 54sec. Dirk, alone, ran five furlongs, ithe last four occupying 52sec, and Aherlow, doing a -similar task, took « second longer. Kahuwai and Gold Purse were out and cantered a couple of rounds ; the former has kidney trouble., and consequently she wt. walking sorely. Bahleaxe, Okoari and Dartmoor were not out. Boreas was scratched for the Riccarton Welter Handicap, to be decided at the Can- j terbury Jockey Club's Spring Meeting, at 11.45 a.m. to-day. The racehorses Palaver, Eajah, The Hempie and^The Shannon arrived from the north by the s.s. Tarawera this morning.
