A NARROW ESCAPE. .
. , » , . The " Grey River Argus " says that .an incident occurred on the trip of the Clyda to Greymouth a few days ago that is worth recording, as showing what narrow escapes from death seamen occasionally meet. with. While the mate of the Clyde was hauling in the log, the vessel gave a violent lurch, and he was taken overboard. Fortunately • for him, his leg was caught by a loop of the line, so that he was being towed by his leg when the man ab the wheel sang out the dread alarm of "Man overboard." The mate Was soon hauled on, board again, little the worse, except for his leg being pinched and 1 scraped a little by the log line. A. dog s that was aboard was missed shortly afterwards, and has not been seen since. -It is supposed that \ht poor brute jumped after the mate when ho was drawn' overboard, and ; was nob observed) in the excitement.
