The Royal party were favoured with a glorious day for its trip south, and. got a magnificent view -of the,^ snow-carpped Southern Alps and fertile plains of Canterbury. All along the route enthusiastic crowds lined the wayside stations. On the arrival at ' Ashburton, where the station was really gracefully decorated' in pink andi blue,, with festoons of greenery, the Mayor Councillors and other local officials were presented; in the presence of an enormous crowd, and a body of. school childi-en sang the National Anthem. The enthusiasm and cheering were more energetic than at any previous point in the Royal tour.
