A SCARBOROUGH MYSTERY.
SUSPICION OF FO UL PLAY. A MIDNIGHT TRAGEDY. Scarborough was in the throes of an-, other great sensation •when the last mail left London. A pool of blood, one morning, was discovered half-way along the outer pier immediately at the foot of the third flight of 6tone steps proceeding from the Castle Hill. From the . pool bloodstains were traceable up the steps/ and across the top of the wall to the extreme edge, whence there is a straight drop into the sea. There were also signs of a body having been dragged across the top of the wall, and the suspicion was that someone had been foully dealt with and thrown into the sea. A surgeon made an examination, of the blood and had no doubt whatever that it came from 'a human 'being. A number of fishing vessels were anchored: dn the inner harbour, close to the pier, during the slight, and the crews of these affirm that no sounds or screams were heard. It was high tide shortly after four o'clock on the morning the affair occurred, and any body thrown dnto the sea would, unless it caught in the rocks, be washed northwards by the receding tide.
