Friday, April 11. (Before Mr W. H. Cooper, J.P., and Mr W. Lawrence, J.P.) Drunkenness. — A male first offender was fined 5s nnd costs, in default twenty-four hours. — Mary Kelleth and Alfred Wallace were sentenced to double this penalty. — Mary M'Kepney, a very old offender' indeed, pleaded sruilty, but. promised that if the Bench would deal leniently with her she would leave the town at once. She had only been at large for four hours, after "doing" a month at Lyttelton, when arrested. The Bench convicted and discharged her on the understanding that she betook herself to some other part of the colony. A charge against her of having broken a cab window was withdrawn, owing to the non-appearance, of the cabman. Orsckxk Language. — John Farrell admitted' having used obscene language in High Street on April 11. Evidence- was given by two constables, and the. Bench inflicted a sentence of one month's imprisonment. BitKAfiiKS of the By-laws. — The following cyclists were each fined 10s, ami costs Vs. for having riduon t heir bicycles on various footpaths: — Herbert Osment, Henry Kibblewhite, Wi'liam Hooper, Charles Jennings, Thomas Hardy Jchnstun, Andrew Nelson, John Miles, George Nicolas, Lizzie Harris. Olive Wilson and Emily Martin. For having ridden without lialits, Augustus de la Cour and Harry Mutt" wore each lined 10s and costs. Tki-ancy. — John M'Mnhon was fine-.] 10s ■and costs for having disobeyed an order uf the Court to send his children to scho.d.
