CRICKET.
Mr G. A. U. Tapper, Secretary of the New Zealand Cricket Council, has received a letter from Mr B. J. Ward ill, Secretary of the Melbourne Cricket Club, in reference to his communication, asking if it woufd be possible to induce the Marylebone Cricket Team, which will- shortly visit Australia, to visit New Zealand, stating that the team would visit Australia unless something unforseen happened. He could not say, for some time, whether it would bs possible to send the team to New Zealand, even if the Association could offer terms to make an inducement. The time taken, say six weeks, would be an almost insuperable bar to a visit to New Zealand. The English players seemed to have a great dread of the sea-; and even objected to go over to Tasmania, if it could be avoided. However, a trip to New Zealand would be, no doubt, looked upon as a holiday by the visitors, and, excepting the sea trip, would be greatly enjoyed by them. Until he heard from the team he could not make an engagement.
