Imports into Sydney from Jan. 1 to April 6 were £5,620,000, or a decrease, of £569,000, and the exports £5,162,000, or an increase of over £351,000 compared with the imports and exports during the corresponding period last year. (Received April 12, 10.10 a.m.) WRECK OF THE KARRAKATTA. PERTH, April 12. A preliminary enquiry into the wreck of the Karrakatta, exonerated the captain and officers and greatly praised the captain and chief engineer *for their cool' behaviour. Evidence proved that the vessel struck an uncharted rock. (Received April 12, 10.10 a.m.) VICTORIAN RAILWAYS. MELBOURNE, April 12. Mr Fitzpatrick, the Chief Traffic Manager, has been appointed Acting-Commission-er of Railways, after Mr Matbieson's departure for England, where he has accepted an important position. (Received April 12, 10.13 a.m.) BANKING RETURNS. SYDNEY, April 12. The banking returns for the March quarter show that the deposits increased by £1,203,000, and the amount of coin and bullion decreased by £756,000, compared with the figures of the previous quarter.
