LONDON, April 8.

Official returns of the 'British casualties in South Africa show that to the end of March last 14,728 men were killed or died of wounds or disease, 775 were missing, and* 2089 who were invalided were discharged from the army as unfit for service.

The War Office has ordered the acceleration of the shipment of horses and mules purchased in America- for South Africa. No further purchases will be made in America.

The Boers are scattering before Colonel Plumer in the Northern Transvaal.

The Premier has received the following cable message from the Governor of Cape Colony :" 25436 George Hepworth, killed at Lithothyti. ' His next cf kin is George Hepworth, of Yaldhurst, Canterbury." From his number it is evident that the deceased belonged to an Imperial regiment.
