SMART DETECTIVE'S CLAIM
ON AMERICA.
Inspector Freest-, of Scotland Yard, re--nentiy filed a* cla'Jm for £200 with Mr Ohotote, the United SlUtes Ambassador. The £200 is in the sSbape of a reward offered toy t&a* City of Ntw Yonk for itlhe cw'p.'ure of Fi'ank Alkn, a notorious criminal who e.-c.i*ped from Ludfow -Street Gaol on July 4, 1895.
Inspector Freest has oarned tthe" reward by tincUr.« AlUa, who is no other than Sullivan, tiie BiikJbeck Bank robber, who is wow -serving a four years' sentence in a British prison. He is the man who sna'tcCied a lady's purse in the Bh'kbeok Bank and was captured -after a bard chase down Chancery Lane* into Fleet- Street.
The Inspector sehlom forgets a facs seen either in flesh or a phonograph, and he has kept an eye open for Allen and the convicts H-a-1 oran and Russell who escaped iwJtii him for five years. He recognised Sullivan at Bow Street, and has sines conclusively established his identity as Allen.
The three men escaped from Ludlow Street gaol br taking advantage mf the lenity ot the keepers on Indepe.ndencs Day. They were given a lcfe-tle •extra, freedom in ith*- gaol ppjeirfcts on the holiday, and repaid the kindness by knocking -a wa-rder insensible, locking, him in a coll, and using his keys to escape.
