COLONY AND COMMONWEALTH.
RETURNED NEW ZEALAND SIGHT-
SEERS.
AMPLE ACCOMMODATION IN
SYDNEY
ANXIETY FOR NEW ZEALAND TO FEDERATE.
[FBOM Ouß COBBESPOmOENT.] WELLINGTON, Jan. 17. '"'
The Moana. brought back a number of returning visitors to the Commonwealth inauguration, consisting of pressmen, politicians and sight-§eer». They are very full of the sights of Sydney, the processions, illuminatioua, banquets, and. so forth. ;
What renew tons is that they report that Sydney was not so crowded, but that a. good many move people might have been accommodated in lodgings, hence many regrets here and tlheife' *h#t the womenkind weie left behind, in obedience to the warnings that turn out to hawe been groundless. The attitude of the leading Australian^politieians to New Zealand is described as one of feverish anxiety for the island colony to join the Commonwealth, but the arguments used by them do not appear to have made much impression. They are, on the contrary, described as poor, vague and slipshod.
