OBITUARY.

MR A. I. M'GREGOR. [Fbom Ottb Correspondent.] AKAROA, Jan, 17.

Mr Alexander Innes M'Grsgor, Mayor of Akaroa, died at sis o'clock this morning, after a. long illness. He was bojitdnj 1838, at Stonebaiven, Scotland, and came to the colony in 1869. After residing for some years in Dunedin he settled in. Afcaroa, where he resided until his death. He always took part in every project tending to the well-beang and aaivancement of the borough, and heNjccupied the position of mayor for several years, besides being ofcainman of the School Committee. In 1887 Mr M'Gregor was elected to the House of Representatives for Akaroa, and was appointed Ministerial whip by the AtEnson Government. He was of a very kindly nature, and greatly esteemed by all classes, and bis advice and counsel were frequently sought by his friends. He had been a widower foj the lasp six years. He leaves a family of three sons and one daughter.
