Sorrell stated.* that he lived -mlTuam Street, nearly opposite the accused's : ■ house, and had seen people go to it all hours of the day and night, arriving roost-. Iy in cabs. He should say till?*; the place was a house of bad' rspute.: James Tongue, who also resides in Tuamr Street, opposite the: house of the accused, stated' that all day and all night cabs drove up to the house, and mengot but and went in. The house was a downright nuisance" to the neighbourlood. . Arthur Kingdon, another resident in Tuam Street, next accused's house, stated that he was subjected to much annoyance by the constant traffic of cabs, and by men going to his house. On one occasion a. man walked right into his parlour without knacking. Detective v Livingstone stated that the accused wag keeping a house of bad repute,: aiid had been brought before the T court previously on a similar charged Constable Osmond and Ssrgeant Rod- : gers also gave evidence. The latter stated that there had been, disorder in the house, and he had been called in to turn oiit some men who had refused to 'leave. The accused also gave evidence, and for the: defence a man named Twbmer stated that : he kep;t the accused, and no men 'had been: to the house for immoralvpurposes. The! statements with regard to the accused's bad ; character' w^ere quite untrue. The accused' was not keeping him. Mrs Stsnhouse, "sister! of the accused, gave a^ecer-al denial to; the statements against accused's character.; Mrs Riley gave evidence of a similar nature.; The Bench unanimously considered that the; case had been proved, that it was a very; bad' one, and that a fine would not meet it.j The Bench wished ttf indicate its feeling offi the maftter, and to mark, its disapDrobationj of ithe conduct of the accused, who would be sentenced to one month's imprisonment,! without the option of a fine. The case had* been adjourned, and the accused was oifler-j ed to pay the expenses of the -adjournment^
