A SUCCESSFUL BOER RAID.
I ' A BRITISH SUCCESS! ! (Received Jan. 9, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 8. De la Bey's and Steenkamp's commandos numbering five thousand imen have arrived at Boshof after successful cattle raiding in the Klipriversberg and Reitfontein districts. They evaded ; General Clements's and General Paget'a pursuit !by retiringinto the Magaliesberg Range. General Babbington . and - Major-General Gordon, with a force of fif teen hundred men, on Jan. 6 attacked De la Rey with, eight hundred men, expelling him from an almost impregnable position at Jfaauwpoort, between Reitfontein, and Ki-ugersdorp. The mounted itroope acted with, the greatest gallantry, pursuing the enemy for fifteen i miles. The Boers lost heavily.
