AN AFFRAY IN MADRAS STREET. KNOCKED DOWN IN SELF-DEFENCE. At the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr J. C. Sopp, J.P., and Mr W. H. Cooper, J.P., John Bradshaw,, Thomas Horten, George Mahoney and Herbert Fleck were charged , with ihay-. ing caused * a breach of the peace in Madras Street on Bee. 14. The. last three pleaded guilty, and as Bradshaw appeared 1 to ihaye been summoned by mistake, the charge against* him was with-: drawi; ' Fleck Stated' that he hacU/beeoiicalled a number of insulting" names : by : the other two accuead- on- the" night in question, "and 1 - a.t -last - they attacked " Bm.- He knocked one Sown,pui'ely in selfrdefeneej 4 and- -was then arrested. Other evidence corroborated thisV and' Feck was *hen allowed by the Bench toWithdraw his plea of guilty. The charge against Fleck was. then dismissed, while the other two accused were each fined 20s and costs. '
