TARDY EXHIBITORS.
Oa Saturday, when we commented on the delay noticeable in arranging some of the stalls afc the Exhibition, we hoped that we should not hawe to repeat our Complaints. We thought that the warnings given in thi newspapers would be sufficient to rouse tardy exhibitors into activity, and stimulate them into setting about their work without further delay. But we were wrong. Some of th 6 spaces which were vacasit on Saturday are still Tinoccupied, while but little progress has been made with others. The Exhibition authorities disclaim responsibility for ths delay, but we do not know that that; will help them much if the Exhibition is not ready on. the day appointed for the opening ceremony. They may excuse themselves on the .ground that the fault lay with the exhibitors, but all the excuses "which they are able to invent will avail theni very little in the eyes; of the public. With theft usual faculty for criticising things as they find them, the public will say that the Exhibition is nofc ready, and they will not trouble themselves to listen to explanations. Therefore, unless the authorities desire to sea the success of their enterprise imperilled, they ought to inform the exhibitors at once that their exhibits must be in position without further delay. Naturally the authorities hesitate albout resorting to extreme measures but it would be far better to forfeit a few spaces than to endanger the future of the whole Exhibition.
