«• SYDENHAM. A. meeting of the Sydenhami Borough G6uhcil J was held in" the Oounoil ChambeTa, Sydenimnr, last evening ; present — his Worship 'the Mayca: (Mr B. P. Manhire), and Messrs Forrester, Brown, Williams, Hammett, Jones, Smith., Sim, Meikleham,. M'Me&kan, Johnyjon, Taylor, and Jacques. A deputation waited on the Coumoil in reference to the opening of Dicken Street, requesting that it might be declared a thoroughfare, and producing a requisition signed by a large number cif residents an the locality. Referred to the Works Committee for report. -A letter was received from the- Indian Famine' Relief Fund Committee. The Sydenham Football Club wrote that the club would make good any damage to tihe ground, bub it did! nob think a "caretaker necessary. It censidsred the rent it paid covered all expense. A letter was received from 'the Ricoarton Road Bcairdiiitating t3iat tihie Board could not undertake tbs madntenance of tbo Ki&rth side of Lincoln Road, and could nob sanction- expenditure for wa- ( taring 'tiba road except on show days. The Municipal Associatdcu/ wrote invitiing dlelegates from the Council. TKe : Mayor and" Councillor Jacques were appointed. A deputation: from the Sydemham Rivals Cricket Club waited on. the Council, and stated that the club wished, to find out, if it was to contribute towards tike cost of keeping the ground, how. much ground it would 1» allowed and under what conditions. Referred to the Works Committee. A special meeting was then held, to considor tlhi3 burgefis roll, and there being no objections it was passed and signed. Ordinary busines a was then resumed It was resolved that th© report of the WaW Supply CcmmSttee should be considered at a special meeting to be held oai Monday. liie Mayor was appointed a delegate to attend tihe meeting of the Industrial Assooia- . tdon. It was resolved that it be recommencfod to the Works Oommdttee thalt the portiion of Gordto Shreet, about 24ft, be-, tween Colombo and Addison Streets, should be channelled- and asphalted. The Works Committee stated thab it could not reoo-m---mend the granting of Messrs Dalgety's application for a crossing over tihie ' f ootoath on tba South Belt. The report of tihe Finance Committiee stated that the credit on tihe loan account amoumited to £5394 9s 4d, and the debit on. the general account to £3322 15s sd. Aceouoi'ts to the amount cif £360 0s lid were recommended! for payment. The Council then went into' committee to consider -tte applications for the position of Foreman of Work®, a©d f Mr Alexaowleir Ruajel was appointed^ -A large number of applications were received.
