THE SEWAGE SYSTEM.

Yesterday. Dr Mason, one of the Government Health Commissioners, paid a- visit to the Drainage Board's sewage farm at Bromley, and made a careful inspection M ''he property. His report', which is published in another column, was most favourable. He could scarcely, . he said, imagine a less objectionable system of depositing sewage, and the arrangements for carrying out the' work 'he characterised as excellent. He expressed himself satisfied also that the operations of the Drainage Board threatened no danger to the health of the citizens of Christ, church or to the inhabitants of Bromley. In fact, Dr Mason may be said to have been very much impressed with the efforts of the Dra.vnage Board 1 tO clear away the sewage of the district. ■ But while satisfied with tie system and pleased \vilh the man-. n« in which at is being carried out, ~Ds Mason deplored tho faci that it is confined to a comparatively small part of the drainage area. He insisted that it ought to be made universal, and that the suburban boroughs should combine with the city for the purpose of making it so. This is just what a. large number of persons interested in drainage' matters, have been suggesting foi many years past, and it must b*e eminently satisfactory to them to have their opinions confirmed by a recognised health expert. For our own part, we are convinced that the creation of a universal system of sewage drains and a high pressure water supply need be delayed until "Greater Christchurch " has been consummated. It ought to form one of the primary features of the programme of every local municipal politician.
