THE ATTACK ON CRONJE'S FORCES.
LORD KITCHENER'S UNCOMPROMISING REPLY. GENERAL BULLER'S MOVEMENTS. (Received Feb. 24, 12.25 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 23. Fifty guns bombarded Cronje's forces on Monday and Tuesday, adding considerably to the Boer losses. The enemy asked for twenty-four hours' armistice to bury their dead. Lord Kitchener replied "Not a minute's armistice. Fight or surrender unconditionally." Ifis feared that the British losses, which occurred chiefly on Sunday, total eleven hundred. General Buller has now got his . heavy guns across the Tugela. The Naval Brigade occupy the hills Howards Ladysmith. Lord Methuen reports that there is enough coal in Kimberley to start the De Beers mine in ten days, and thus relieve the distress. 1 • K
