MELBOURNE v. WANGANUI.

[Per Press Association.] WANGANUI Feb. 22. The match Wanganui v. Melbourne Club was concluded to-day. The weather was beautiful,, but the wicket was worse than on the previous day: TThe Victorians, who had somewhat the worse of the indifferent wicket, won by only 2 wickets, and for the last half-hour were hard pushed. Theii* first innings closed for 182. Wanganui started well, getting 40 for two -wickets, but seven wickets were down for 67, and at lunch time eight wickets were down for 98. Owing to a firm stand for the last wicket by Luxford and Francis, the score was taken to 148. This left the visitors 95 runs to get to win, and, to the astonishment of the crowd, Trumble was bowled by M'Carthy's second ball. Then L. P. Cave bowled Mailer, and a little later the sensational over of the match came. L. P. Cave taking Graham, Jacobs and Russell. Graham was splendidly caught by Marshall on the boundary, and the two others were clean bowled. Five wickets were thus-down for 43. At the tea adjournment the excitement was intense. At .67- Aitken Avas caught off a bumping ball, and immediately after Ross was given out for a eaten, at the wickets — seven out for 68. Fry was dismissed by an easy catch at point, but Irwin and M'llAvraich played a determined game. Runs came slowly, and two catches ought to have been secured. A. change in the bowling, noAvever, enabled the visitors to pars the local score. The Victorians express themselves as delighted with their treatment here.
