MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

The eighteenth annual meeting of the Girls' Friendly Society of the Chiistchurch Diocese was held in the Girls' Friendly Society's Central office yesterday, the Rev W. Pascoe presiding. The Revs C .A. Fraer and L. Fitzgerald were present, and there was a large attendance of associates. Tihe ba-lance-sheet was read, t<he report being taken as read: The Rev W. Pascoe said that the slight falling-off in the membership showed that a weeding-out process was going on, and that the members whose heart was not in the Society's Avork would only prove a j source of weakness if retained. He laid emphasis on the importance of training candidates for membership, which should not be lost sight of by the Associates. The Rev j L. Fitzgerald moved the adoption of the | report and balance-sheet, and said that a lodginghouse for members as well as nonmembers of the Society appeared to be a want in Christchurch. He thought, too, that in order to promote the attitude of sisterhood among the members, ladies should come forward and enrol themselves in the Society. The Rev C. A. Fraer, in seconding the motion, advocated the establishment of cooking and needlework classes, and suggested various methods by which members might "have their taste in reading cultivated. The report and balance-sheet were then adopted, and the following officers were elected: —^Vice-President, Mrs Mrs Mathias; treasurer, Mrs Weston ; j diocesan secretary, Miss Ainger; Council, Mesdames Hawkes, Hoare, Boyes and Croxton. A vote of thanks to the officers of' last year, and one to the Chairman, were passed. The Court Star of Canterbruy, Order of Foresters, held' a summoned meeting on Monday evening, the C.R., Bro W. B. Weakley,. in the chair. The Woodwards reported fourteen members on the sick fund. The report of the last district meeting was read, and considered. Nominations of officers for next term were as follow: — S.C.R., Bro Machin; S.W., Bro Cooper; J.W., Bro Gent; 5.8., Bro Re.stiea.ux; J. 8., Bro Cater; A.5.," Bro Jewj ss; M.S., Bro Watts ; M. Committee, Bros C. A. Eldridge, H. T. Eldridge, Beattie, Weakley, Mummery, Savage and Cater. Arbitration Committee, Bros G. Sears, Male, Hudson. Ashman and Ranger; Auditors, Bros ' Wathew and Watts; district delegates, Bros Weakley, Ranger, Mummery, Beattie, Owen; hallkeepers, Ohristchurch, Bro G. Wade; Richmond Hall, Bros Bell and Crookes. It was decided to hold the next Court meeting on. Wednesday, Dec. 20, the following Monday being a public (holiday. One new memI ber was admitted.
