CHRISTCHURCH LIEDERKRANCHEN.
The fourth At Home of the Christchurch Liederkrancheu was held last night in the Art Gallery, the concert-room, which had been prettily decorated with pot plants and flowers, being well filled with an appreciative audience. The Society has been considerably strengthened during the year, and the choruses and part songs were excellently rendered. The first part of the programme consisted of " The Minstrel Prince," a, short cantata by Roeckel, containing several good choruses and solos. Among the latter, " The Brides of Venice " was excellently sung by Miss Moir, the " Aye Maria " being entrusted to Miss E. Lake, who did full justice to the pretty air. The other soloists, who had lighter parts assigned them, were Misses Francis, Garforth, and Miss Nellie West. In the second part of the programme, Miss Lake .though somewhat nervous, gave an exceedingly good rendering of Bishop's fine song, " Tell me, my heart"' a song that suited her sympathetic voice admirably, and earned for her an enthusiastic recall. Miss Moir'a charming .rendering of " Dear Bird of Winter," a somewhat difficult song, was given with a fine appreciation of the beauties of this dainty composition, and she acknowledged a hearty recall with " Kate O'Shane," also delightfully sung. Miss E. Nelson, whose rich contralto voice promises much, sang Gounod's song, " The Worker," and her encore number was even more pleasingly rendered. A trio for the violin, 'cello and piano, by Miss Freda Marsden and two of her pupils, Misses I and R. Edgar, went smoothly, and the part songs, " Daisies," " Where the Bee Sucks," and " Eventide " completed an excellent concert. Misa Katie West accompanied the singers on the piano, and Miss Jennie West conducted with her customary skill.
