ASHLEY COUNTY ASSOCIATION. On Saturday, Belfast defeated Cusj:, at Cust, by 81 runs. Scores:— Cust 32 (Wayland 10), and Belfast. 113 (Banks 15, Murray 27, Hogg 19, WaiteslO, and Wachsmann 15 not out). For the losers A. Chapman and Harris bowled best, and for Belfast A. Smith and W. Eaves. Belfast Second Eleven, defeated Chaney's Corner Club, on the ground of the latter, by 60 runs.
WISDEN COMPETITION. A match was played on the Richmond Domain on Saturday between Marshland and Linwood A, and resulted in favour of Marshland by 70 runs. Scores: Marshland 90 (Lafferty 29 not cut. J. R. Walter 16) ; Linwood 20. W. J. Walter (seven wickets for 8 runs) and Kerr (three wickets for 10 rims) bowled well for Marshland. J- -Forsyth- (six wickets for 25 runs), Griffin and Thompson bowled best for the losers. Out of a thousand shares required in the Palmerston Bacon Factory Company, 935 have been subscribed, and the Company is to be registered at once. The consumption of horseflesh as human food slightly decreased during last year in Paris, bein«f 4472 tons. . This was derived from 20,878 horses, 53 mules, and &i>-\ donkeys. - <
