Wai-; mate.— Building trades: Very good: anum*' ber of buildings going up. All hands fairlj employed. Retail trade (general) : Good. : Unskilled labour : The spring threshing has commenced. This will employ some of the surplus labour. A few married men are out of employment, the majority of whom have just left co-operative works. There is every prospect of a good season, although the late heavy rains have killed some of the early lambs.
