EDUCATION BOARD.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — In reference to your report of today's meeting of the Education Board to discuss the suggested alterations in it-he school regulations, I should like to say that, in speaking of the arrangements as likely to give rise to a good deal of deceit as to the real attainments of the pupiis, it was not ait all in my mind to apply tihe term to the conscious action of any 'teacher, though, in the necessary condensation of my rather long-winded remarks, a statement about the teacher's duty is brought into such close connection with the other expression of opinion as 'to suggest tbalb rn^* terpretation. What I meant was that, in two ways pointed out, the proposals would inevitably deceive the public as to the pupils' general attaiiunenits. The two points are : (1) The nature of the proposed schedule entries o.f • classification, which would in all cases be taken, to indicate attainment, yet would in certain subjects merely express the opinion df the pupil's fitness to be instructed in fche subject in a higher -nominal class; and (2) the nature of the general report presented annually by the inspector on the schools of a district, in which the " classes " given would inevitably be taken to mean classes of general attainment, and not, as they really would be, cJass€i3 for reading and subjects associated therewith.— -I am, etc., W. J. ANDERSON. Sept. 20.
