The Chairman reported that s ; ncs last meeting the sum of £3533 los 7d had been paid into tbo Borrd's account, including wharfage dues £2311 8s sd. pilotage ond port charges ££01 18s lOd, and towage, storage, etc, £320 6s 3d. During the six months ended . June 30, the wharfage revenue had increased by £734, and the pilotage and port charges by £1119 Oa Bd, mrk'n.q; a total increase for the period of 51853 ls'ld. The various departmental reports of officers were read and approved. The Harbour Improvement- Committee reported that it had deferred giving its opinion upon the furtlvor lighting of the wharves by electricity, pending the receipt of Mr R. T. Turnbull's report on the subject. Tlie committee recommended that floating fenders should • I>r provided for tho -use of vessels at No. 7 Jetty, the estimated cost of supplying twelve 18in white pine fenders would be 5147 12s. A further recommendation was to the effect that a tentative charge should be made to each vessel using tliem of £2 per day for the first day and £1 per day for each successive day. Tbe committee had considered the question, of fencing the gravinc: dock, and could not recommend the work being done. The subject of the paying of wages to employees when sick was discussed, and the matter -was left in the hands of the Harbour Improvement Committee to inquire and report. The Harbour-master reported tliat the inner harbour had shoaled to 24ft 6in near Nos. 6 ancl 7 jetties, and recommended using the small Priestman dredge from Timaru until the dredge Manchester should arrive. The matter was referred to the Harbour Improvement Committee to report upon. The dingy at the Pilot Station having been in iise for over twenty -five years, it was resolved to call fov tenders for building a new one. - . Power, -was given' to erect a second electric lamp on No. 5 jetty. Y It was reported that the fire-engine in the tug, which had been in use for twenty-one years, had broken down, and the inspector suggested that a new one should be procured. The matter was referred to the Harbour Improvement Committee, with power to have it examined by an expert. Mr A. M. Hussey wrote, recommending tliat one of the two life-boats at Sumner should be stationed at Bell's Baths. After discussion, the matter was referred to the Harbour improvement Committee. Accounts amounting to £1084 8s 3d were passed for payment. Tlie credit balance in tho Bank was reported as £3052 3s IOd ; and the Board approved of £1367 of the sinking fund being placed on fixed deposit with the Bank of New Zealand. (Left sitting.)
