FIRES.
At 11.45 yesterday morning, the Lichfield Street station received notice that smoke was issuing from Mr Dale's hosiery shop i in Manchester Street. The Brigade plant . turned out, and the two chemical engines put . the fire out without the assistance of the steamers. The building was a brick one, and the fire must have been 11 burning for some tune,' as the whole of the stock and interior of the building was charred. The known insurance is £100 on stock. In this instance, as in the fire at Messrs Johnson arid Cousins' premises, on May 28, a man broke the glass of the alarm box, but failed to pull the knob, and the man who ultimately gave the alarm, passed two boxes without using them. Out of ten fires in the last three months, five have occurred on Sunday.
