A poll of the ratepayers of the city win taken to-day on the proposal of the City Council to establish public abattoirs und^r municipal control, with a veterinary surgeon as inspector, and to borrow £7500 for the purpose, on the security of a special rate of three-halfpence in the pound. The proposal was carried by a majority of 123. ■
