There is a very general feeling all over South' Africa that affairs in the Transvaal are approaching a climax, and that Britain .will shortly be obliged to insist upon the 'grievances of the Uitlanders being redressed. Any other Power with the enormous stake ii' the country that Britain possesses would have interfered long ago. Petition after petition, signed by over 21,000 Uitlanders, has been presented to Mr Kruger, and nothing but frail promises have been the result.
