'THAMES, May 16. \ A shocking accident occurred at 4 p.m. ' yesterday at the Tararu Creek mine. Three ( holes had been put in, charged with gelignite, two. of which exploded, the third miss- \ ing fire. About an hour and a half after- ' wards, two men, Theophilus M'CaUum and Thomas Dunn, went to the hole unexploded, contrary, it is alleged, to the mine manager's instructions. They attempted to prick the charge out of the hole, when the gelignite exploded. Both men were badly injured, and were taken to. the hospital. It was found necessary .to amputate M'Callum's left arm above the elbow, and 1 Ins eyes are also injured'. Dunn was burnt about the chest, arms, neck and face, and* also received flesh wounds on the body and • legs. ■.••.. J ;
